The Coolest Spots For Snow Skiing
Snow skiing is a popular vacation for individuals as well as families. Snow skiing is a sport that many people of all ages can enjoy. Whereas older teenagers may become bored with popular theme parks, snow skiing is an exhilarating rush. There are snow-sport mountains that are specifically meant for children as well as experienced skiers. Skiing may look difficult from a distance but the truth of the matter is that anyone can learn how to ski. There is special equipment that can help novices to ski safely. There are also special classes offering private lessons (or even drop-in lessons) for the skier in a hurry.

The history of skiing dates back to 1890, when the term skiing was entered into the English language from Norwegian. Previously, the sport was known as snowshoeing and from ancient Norse Myth. Long before there was an official sport of skiing, in snow-packed areas civilization adapted to the climate and created snowshoes. Today, there still exists two primary types of skiing: Nordic skiing, which evolved from Scandidavian disciplines, and sees bindings that attach at the skier's toes; and Alpine skiing, which evolved from skiing from the Alps, and features bindings attached at both the toe and all the way up to the heel of the skier's boots.

Where are some of the most popular locations to ski? In the United States, Colorado is a popular choice, since it's cold nearly all year round and has many ski resorts easily accessible from major airports. Silverton, Colorado is a particularly accommodating city and offers skiing lift services, as well as many ski guides for vacationers. Snow accumulates gradually in Silverton but preserves very well, particularly in the months of December through March. Aspen is another location great for skiing, and littered with fabulous ski resorts. Colorado skiing is a great choice if you desire to stay within the country but still want to treat yourself to the fullest snow skiing vacation.

If you don't mind leaving the States (or are even looking forward to it) then consider heading north to the snow-covered provinces of Canada, such as Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec. Some of the best locations in Canadian territory include Kicking Horse, British Columbia (with large hills and 100 inch annual snowfall), Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, (with has a well-known resort and a lot of money going into its upkeep) and Banff/Lake Louise in Alberta, (which offers more scenic resorts). There are also overseas locations worth mentioning like Cortina, Italy, Chamonix Mont-Blanc, France and Zermatt, Switzerland.

Like any vacation, snow skiing is a sport you can enjoy at home or overseas for a truly exotic experience.
